The Atomic Backland Tour is a convenient and lightweight tech binding for alpine touring. Its only compatible with tech toe boots, so it meant to be used as a human power lift to get you in the backcountry, side country or doing a dawn patrol prior to your ski resort opening. Like all Backland gear it’s incredibly durable and easy to use. It features a patented step-in aid at the front, so your boot is automatically positioned to click in. Then two climbing aids work separately from the heel tower, so with one easy click you can choose between 0°, 7° and 13° positions. Performance-wise Backland Tour is exceptional, with a broad 40-millimeter mounting for max power transmission on wide skis (this also cuts the risk of the screws pulling out). With brakes it weighs in at just 398 grams a pair, is compatible with standard crampons, and has a lengthy 50- millimeter sole-length adjustment. There’s just something really satisfying about earning your own turns and leaving perfectly round arcs on a fresh palette of white snow behind you. If you’re looking to get out there and ski the fresh, out in the back country and away from people you need the right bindings. The Atomic Backland Tour will check all your boxes for adventures far beyond the resort boundaries and beyond. If you like to chew up vert on the ascent, this is your binding.
