Marco Cirillo has some of Australia's oldest Grenache vines dating back to 1850. The Vincent Grenache vineyards range in age between 80 to 100 years (the babies of the bunch). The importance of old vines in Australia is understated. The old, rugged, gnarly vines make concentrated wines that resist drought in the arid and hot climate. The old vines also bring an elegance and purity to the wine, which breaks the trend of sweet, oaky Barossa Grenache. The Cirillo Vincent Grenache is silky and perfumed thanks to the use of whole bunch fermentation. This is a crushable wine even at 14% alcohol. Fresh raspberry, chocolate covered cherries, Kirsch, dried strawberry, and beautiful red, floral notes jump out of the glass. With time, notes of white pepper and a cinnamon spice present themselves. A beautifully rounded and generous wine.
