Ludwigia Senegalensis

Ludwigia senegalensis is a lovely aquatic stem plant known for the unique pattern on its leaves. When grown in high lighting conditions, it develops a deep red tone that make its lighter-colored veins really pop under aquarium LEDs. Previously known as Ludwigia sp. Guinea, this plant can grow either submerged or emersed. When emersed, it tends to creep along surfaces, while its submerged form grows upright.

Although many Ludwigia are known for being beginner-friendly, Senegalensis is quite the opposite! It requires high light, CO2 injection, and a liquid aquarium plant fertilizer. Be sure to space stems adequately to allow light to reach the lower parts of the plant, and address any nutrient deficiencies promptly, as its health will visibly decline quickly without proper care. In optimal conditions, Ludwigia Senegalensis will grow at a moderate pace and can be propagated like fellow aquatic stem plants by trimming and replanting into a quality aquarium soil. Its fickle nature aside, Ludwigia Senegalensis is a beautiful addition to any planted aquarium tank. If successful in growing it, patience will be generously rewarded!
