Soggy Dollar takes its name from a real, famous beach bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, established in the early 1970s and credited with inventing the Painkiller cocktail — the bar's name comes from sailors and beachgoers who'd swim ashore and pay for drinks with soggy, wet dollar bills. The Gold expression is distilled from Caribbean sugarcane molasses and aged in oak barrels for its golden color and mellow character, bottled at 40% ABV. Official notes describe a nose of tropical fruit, caramel, and a touch of vanilla and banana, with subtle oak on the finish, built for easy sipping or classic Caribbean cocktails like a Rum Punch, Mojito, or Cuba Libre. Community reception on RumRatings has been genuinely mixed — one taster found it oddly reminiscent of inexpensive Scotch at first sip, with sweetness only rescuing it toward the finish. Worth trying with reasonable expectations for an easygoing, tropical-leaning gold rum rather than a serious sipper.
