Woman Behold Thy Son/Behold Thy Mother (Have You Heard? The Seven Last Sayings of Jesus From The Cross)

Mary stands at the foot of The Cross, as Jesus wails and slowly perishes. Her heart breaks at the sound and sight of her Holy Son, paying the eternal price for temporal sin. How benevolent a Mother, who would watch her fleeing motherhood at the expense of her single Child ransoming an entire people. She would become the Mother of All Christian Living. Behold Thy Son, Jesus would exclaim, and point to another, one St. John the Divine. He would help His mother to adopt John, to take him as her new son, thus proclaiming the adoption of sons by God through Christ the Lord. Likewise, the transaction would compliment St. John, as He would thus exclaim: Behold thy Mother! Taking her into his own home, the exchange would be complete, the ministry concluded, and the sacred work finished for all-time. His spirit would be caught up. This sermon preached at Mount Hope Church in Salisbury, North Carolina, would defend the Scriptures and save that refuge in them for Mother Mary.
